#DIY Galaxy sensory bin with household items
This is a really fun #DIY sensory bin for younger kids. My little one found it really relaxing as she found different objects within the bin. We made this bin very simple but you can add additional items to make it more fun and educational. Later, we added different planets and talked about them. You can make them out of foam or styrofoam.
Supplies:
1. Rice
2. Plastic or cardboard bin
3. Aluminum foil
4. Paper
5. Pasta strainer
6. Water
7. Spoon
8. Optional: Foam/styrofoam and paint.
Step 1:
I decided to use two different colors, purple and teal. This would work great adding a third color of pink or black as well. I had my kid help dye the rice and she really liked doing that. To start separate rice into bowls based on the number of colors you will use. You will want to have at least two cups of rice per bowl. You can adjust this number based on how large your bin is.
Step 2:
Put three to four drops of dye onto the dry rice. Begin to stir. The rice will look speckled but it should be evenly distributed. Pour three tablespoons of water and continue to stir until the rice is the desired color. Let this sit for 3-5 minutes. Repeat with each color.
After five minutes has elapsed, pour the rice into a pasta strainer (one color at a time) and rinse. Let the excess water drain. Pour into a dry bowl and let the rice dry. To speed up this process you can microwave the rice for one minute. Repeat for each color.
Step 3:
Take aluminum foil and roll it into a ball. This will be the moon rocks. Take the colored paper and cut it into different shapes. We chose the moon and stars. You can also make planets with the paper or you can use styrofoam/foam and paint them.
Step 4:
Pour the different colored rice side by side in the bin. If you added an additional color, you can swirl it on top. Add the cut-out paper items and the aluminum foil.
Step 5:
Explore outer space!
We hope you have fun making this sensory bin. Sometimes the most fun part is seeing how proud the kids are of their creations.

#DIY Bouncy Balls
#DIY Bouncy Balls are super easy to make and so much fun! To make these you will need the following ingredients.
1. 1/2 Cup of water
2. 1 Tbsp of Borax (can substitute for cornstarch, it will not bounce the same but it works)
3. Elmers Glue
Step 1.
Mix 1 Tbsp. of borax solution and warm water into a bowl. Stir the ingredients until the borax powder has completely dissolved.
Step 2:
Pour the Tbsp. of glue into the solution. Let it sit for at least one minute. The glue will begin to harden. Note: If you want to make a larger bouncy ball you can add more than a Tbsp.
Step 3:
Take the glue out of the bowl and put it into your hands to form a ball by moving them in a circular motion. Initially, it will feel slimy and then will begin to become more and more solid.
I hope your family had as much fun as ours creating these awesome bouncy balls!

DIY Pumpkin Lanterns
Looking for some spooktacular fun for halloween? Check out this fun DIY pumpkin lantern! This project is great for kids ages two and up! (Adult supervision required)
Items needed:
- Two paper plates
- Black paint
- Orange paint
- Scissors
- Green pipe cleaner
- Paint brush
- Double sided tape or glue
- Pencil
- Battery operated candle
- Gold glitter (optional)
Step 1:
Turn plate one upside down to the non-eating side. Paint it orange.
Step 2:
Turn plate two on the eating side. Paint it black
Step 3:
Draw in the eyes and mouth that you want for your pumpkin lantern. You can make him very spooky or very friendly.
Step 4:
Cut out the outline of the mouth and eyes (a trick for this is to make a hole using a pen or pencil and insert the scissors in the hole and start cutting).
Step 5:
Place double sided tape along the outside of the black plate.
Step 6:
Secure the two plates together.
Step 7:
Cut the bottom of the two plates under the mouth. This will be where the candle is placed.
Step 8:
Between the double sided tape or glue (at the top) place the pipe cleaner into the pumpkin. You can curl it using a pen or your finger by looping it around several times and then pulling it off.
Step 9:
Insert a battery operated candle into the bottom cut. Then turn off the lights and watch your pumpkin glow! Hopefully its not too spooky!!
