🐠 Rainbow Fish Paper Plate Craft for Kids
Looking for a fun and creative activity for your little ones? This Rainbow Fish Paper Plate Craft is colorful, simple to make, and perfect for preschoolers and kindergarten-aged kids. It’s great for an ocean theme, storytime activity, or summer crafting fun!
🎨 Supplies Needed:
-
1 large paper plate
-
Blue paint (or any color your child prefers)
-
Scissors
-
Colorful paper (scrapbook, printed, or plain)
-
Circle paper punch
-
Glue
-
Black marker
-
White paper
-
Blue construction paper
🧑🎨 Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Paint the Plate
Paint the paper plate blue (or any color). Let it dry completely.
2. Cut the Mouth and Tail
Cut a small triangle from the edge of the plate (like a slice of pie). This is the fish’s mouth. Save the triangle—it becomes the tail! Glue it to the back end of the fish.
3. Make the Eye
Punch a circle from white paper. Draw a smaller black circle inside it to make an eye. Glue it above the mouth.
4. Punch and Fold the Scales
Punch out lots of colorful circles from paper. For extra sparkle, add glitter or shiny paper!
Fold each circle in half and glue them in rows from head to tail, overlapping slightly.
5. Add the Fins
Cut out fins from blue construction paper (or any color). Glue one to the top and another to the bottom of the fish.
🌈 Ta-da! You’ve Got a Rainbow Fish!
This colorful creation is a great opportunity to build fine motor skills while having fun. Pair it with a reading of The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister to add a storytime bonus and chat about themes like kindness and sharing.
📝 Craft Tips:
-
Try using googly eyes instead of paper ones.
-
Let kids design their own scale patterns and colors.
-
Use a hole punch and string to turn the fish into a hanging decoration!
