DIY Toy Camera – A Fun Craft for Little Photographers!

Is your child fascinated by cameras and photography? While they might not be ready for a real camera, but this DIY toy camera is a perfect way to encourage creative play and spark their interest! Inspired by Highlights Editorial from The Highlights Book of Things to Do, this simple craft is fun for kids of all ages and helps build fine motor skills.

What You’ll Need:

  • Cardboard tube – for the camera lens
  • Mini cereal box – the camera body
  • Washi tape – for decorating
  • Glue, scissors, tape
  • Plastic wrap – to create a viewfinder
  • Ribbon – for a camera strap

How to Make It:

1️⃣ Attach the Lens: Cut a 2-inch section from a cardboard tube and glue it to the front of the box.
2️⃣ Decorate: Cover the box and lens with washi tape to give it a fun, colorful design.
3️⃣ Make the Viewfinder: Cut a small rectangular hole on the front and back, then cover them with plastic wrap.
4️⃣ Add the Strap: Glue a ribbon to each side of the box to create a shoulder strap.

Ways to Play & Display:

🎭 For Younger Kids: This is a perfect toy for dramatic play—kids can pretend to take pictures, "capture moments," and go on photography adventures!
🎨 For Older Kids: Let them customize their camera with stickers or paint, and even display it in their room as a creative decoration.

This simple craft is a great way to encourage creativity and storytelling while keeping little hands busy.
