Rain or Shine—This Frisbee Craft Is a Hit!

Posted by Joni Jones on

"Homemade paper plate frisbee made from two decorated paper plates taped together, forming a colorful and lightweight flying ring."

Frisbees are a summer favorite—but who says the fun has to stop when the weather turns gloomy? With just a couple of paper plates and a little imagination, you can bring the frisbee action indoors! This soft, colorful version is perfect for safe play, even around fragile items. Plus, it’s an awesome STEAM activity that adds a little science and inquiry into your craft time.

What You'll Need:

  • 2 paper plates

  • Scissors

  • Tape, glue, stapler, thread & needle (any binding agent)

  • Markers, crayons, or colored pencils

How to Make a Paper Plate Frisbee:

Step 1: Carefully poke a hole in the center of a paper plate using scissors, then cut an “X” to the inner circle.

Step 2: Cut along the inner circle to create a “donut” shape.

Step 3: Repeat with the second plate.

Step 4: Flip the plates upside down and decorate the outside with vibrant colors and designs!

Step 5: Stack the two plates together with the bottoms facing out. Bind them using your chosen method—tape, glue, stapler, or even stitching!

Step 6: Start playing! Toss it around, challenge a friend, or set up frisbee golf targets inside or outside.

Add a STEAM Twist:

Turn this activity into a fun experiment by changing one variable at a time:

  • Try different-sized plates

  • Use various binding methods

  • Cut larger or smaller center holes

  • Test if you can make your frisbee waterproof

By testing and observing, your little learner is actually doing a controlled experiment—just like real scientists and engineers!

Who knew a simple paper plate could launch so much creativity, learning, and fun? Whether it’s a sunny afternoon in the yard or a rainy day stuck indoors, this craft is sure to keep the smiles flying.

Happy crafting and frisbee-ing!
