DIY Haunted House! - Little Dreamers Club

We are so excited about Halloween and wanted to bring you another #DIY Halloween project! This craft is tons of fun for the kiddos and pretty easy to make. All of our blog projects are made with our kids. We only post the ones we know are fun and truly doable by your little ones. We hope you have a great time creating this and would love to see your photos in the comments below!

  • Supplies needed:
  • 17 Popsicle sticks
  • Paint
  • Double-sided tape (or a hot glue gun)
  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glitter (optional)

Step 1:

Group together nine popsicle sticks and paint them the same color. To make it super spooky the best colors to use are grey and black. This will be used as the wall of the house. Once you finish painting the wall, set aside and let dry.

Step 2:

Paint the roof of the house (six popsicle sticks) and the base of the house (one popsicle stick). After you are finished painting, set aside and let them dry. Using darker colors like a charcoal gray will make the house look spookier. My daughter helped me with this craft and she loves rainbows, so we made a beautiful rainbow roof.

 Step 3:

Outline your bats and pumpkins on the construction paper of your choice. We are into sparkly things so we chose to do bats and pumpkins in orange and purple glittery sparkle paper. To make the pumpkins, we shaped the top like a heart and made the bottom round. For the bat, we drew a circle in the middle and an upside-down crown on both sides of the circle. Another great way to do this is to make three slightly overlapping triangles on each side of the circle. After you are finished drawing, begin cutting out the shapes.

Step 4:

This is where we start taping or glueing the house together. Group all of your black popsicle sticks (the pieces that make up the wall) together. They should be perfectly uniform. Take the base popsicle stick, put double-sided tape on it, and stick it to the bottom front of the popsicle sticks. We ended up with exposed tape so we added some glitter here to make it sparkly.

Step 5:

Flip over the house. You should have one unpainted popsicle stick left. Place the double-sided tape at the top on the back of the house. Secure the unpainted popsicle stick to the double-sided tape. Once finished, flip back the house back over to the painted side.

Step 6:

Now we will assemble the roof. Group together the roof popsicle sticks in sets of three. Secure the three popsicle sticks together using tape on the back. We left the double sided backing to make it more durable. If your double-sided tape doesn't have backing, you could use paper. Stick the popsicle sticks together at the top of the house as pictured below. Secure together with a piece of tape on the backside. Again, to make it more durable leave the backing or place paper over the exposed tape.

Step 7:

Place double-sided tape on opposite sides of the house where you would like to secure your roof.

Step 8:

Secure the roof to the double-sided tape on each side.

Step 9:

Cut out a door from the construction paper and use the double-sided tape to secure it to the bottom center of the house (right above the base popsicle stick). Place your other cut-outs where you would like on the house!

Happy Crafting!
